Slash was and is written mainly for and by heterosexual women.

The original Sherlock Holmes stories were serialized, and had inconsistencies, but that was what made them so popular.

Larry Townsend knew that a lightly edited and rewritten gay and bisexual men's collection of Sherlock Holmes stories would be much easier to 'write, and sell much better than any of his original novels would or ever did. It had nothing to do with Heteronormativity, representation, politics, or any sort of made up theories that were invented in the early 1990s by clueless academics and critics in their ivory towers.
